Welcome to Janus Phase II.

Janus is now host to more than 1800 catalogues submitted by archive repositories throughout Cambridge. Click here for details of the latest additions over the last 35 days.

We have added a much improved search engine. In addition to the previously available simple freetext search for a keyword or phrase, we have now added a more precise (advanced) search option which can combine keywords or phrases and/or narrow a search to a particular part of the catalogue, repository or date span.

Furthermore, you can now browse Janus’s indexes of subjects, person, family and corporate names, and place names, which have been used to index the catalogues.

We have also made it easier to contact the individual repository which holds the material you are interested in. Simply click on the link in the blue box which appears on the left-hand side to contact the repository.

On behalf of its contributors, the Janus Steering Group is interested in gathering information on how people use the site. One of the simplest ways of doing this is to use a free feature at Google called Google Analytics. Google Analytics uses "cookies", which are text files placed on users' computers, to help the website analyse how people use the site. The information generated by the cookie includes IP addresses, and these are transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Google uses the information for the purpose of evaluating use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage.
