This discussion list has been set up for archivists who are contributing catalogues and collection-level descriptions to Janus. It is a forum for commenting on any aspect of Janus, from the creation of EAD files through to the display of published data, and the functionality of the site.

To join or leave the list

• Send a message to the list name with '-request' appended to the name of the list, i.e. ucam-archivists-janus-request@lists.cam.ac.uk
• Don't send a message to the list itself.
• Please note that changes made to mailing lists can take up to two hours to take effect.

To reply to a message sent to the list

If you wish to reply to a message sent to the list, you should consider whether you really want the message to go to everyone on the list, or whether you want to reply just to the sender of the message. Look at the header carefully before you send the message. If you wish to reply to just the sender and you are using Pine, then you should reply 'no' when Pine asks you if you wish to reply to all recipients.

Junk mail

To minimise the burden on the list managers, the Janus discussion list is an 'open' list which means that anyone in the world can post messages to it. This clearly has high potential for abuse, if you should start to receive junk mail don't respond to it, just delete it from your mailbox.
