| ` A committee of a Faculty , or similar institution, with responsibility for ‘the approval of students as Graduate Students and the supervision of their work, the award of degrees, diplomas, and certificates in respect of graduate study or contributions to learning, and other cognate matters’. delegates : persons appointed by the Senate to hear appeals from the Vice-Chancellor’s court. demonstrator : 1. the holder of a University demonstratorship ― a fixed-term post roughly equivalent to University Ass istant Lecturer. The earliest demonstrators were appointed in the 1880s as assistants to specific scientific professors. The post was regularised in the 1926 statutes, though still confined almost exclusively to the sciences. >From the late 1980s the office of Demonstrator was gradually discontinued as the General Board thought the title misleading for applicants for the post. By February 1989 all such remaining offices were replaced by University Assistant Lectureships. 2. Anyone assisting in the conduct of a practical class.
