` Proctorial Cycle

` A schedule first introduced in 1514 listing the two colleges who are to present Proctors for each year. The schedule is re-drawn from time to time to take account of new colleges, and variations in the relative sizes of colleges, larger colleges being required to present more often than small ones. Trinity Hall, which occurs very seldom in the cycle (and which used not to appear at all) has the obligation of presenting a proctor when a proctor in office dies, resigns or is deprived of office.
