` Faculty
| ` Originally used to designate in broad terms subjects in which teaching was available and degrees conferred (Arts, Divinity, Law, Medicine, Music). Faculties in a broad range of subjects were (re-)created by the statutes of 1926, many of them replacing the earlier Boards of Studies . The term is now often used more specifically and less consistently to describe the assorted individuals annually listed as having more or less involvement in teaching in a subject or group of subjects, the persons appointed to the Faculty Board , or even the building in which a faculty is housed. The Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages, and many scientific faculties are sub-divided into departments which are in many respects autonomous. |
