Cambridge University Library Map Department
| Repository details |
| The Map Department has over 1 million maps (mostly printed but some manuscript) of all parts of the world dating from the 16th century to the present. The collection continues to grow through purchase, donation and legal deposit. Access to the collection is provided through our card catalogue and (for items catalogued since 2000) the Library’s online catalogue (see http://www.lib.cam.ac.uk/deptserv/maps/catalogues.html for further information). In addition, the Map Department holds the Charles Close Society Archives http://www.charlesclosesociety.org/node/27 – a collection of documentary and printed material dealing with cartographic matters with particular relevance to Ordnance Survey – access to which is provided via Janus. The Charles Close Society Archives is the only part of the Map Department collections which is described in Janus. See web pages at http://www.lib.cam.ac.uk/deptserv/maps/index.html for a general introduction to the collections. See http://www.lib.cam.ac.uk/history/ for a history of Cambridge University Library. |
