Correspondence relating to the origins of the oldest iron bridge. The documents comprise a letter from I. Groupp of California, U.S.A. accompanying a cutting of a letter by S. T. Hitchcock published in the 'New York Times', 25 May 1975. Hitchcock's letter corrects an article on the 'Shropshire Iron Age' which repeated 'the old story about the first iron bridge in the world having been built in Coalbrookdale'. Quoting Joseph Needham, he confirms that the 'first iron bridges in the world were built in China over 1,000 years earlier'. The documents also include a letter from Michael M.
