1 Correspondence and other documents relating to a inaccurate report published in 'Kung Sheung Evening News', Hong Kong, about the computerisation of Chinese. The report falsely describes a trip to the U.K. by Dr. Yeh Chen-Hui of Taiwan 'to compare and decide which one of two Chinese computers is superior'. The documents include a letter from R. P. Sloss of the Chinese Language Project, University of Cambridge to Joseph Needham accompanying a copy of an English translation of the report, 25 September 1978. Sloss says of the report, 'there is no part of this absurd melodrama that accords with my memory of what took place'. The documents also include letters from Sloss and Joseph Needham to the editor of the newspaper disassociating themselves with the report, 25 and 28 September 1978. The documents also include a letter from Lee Tsung-Ying of 'Eastern Horizon' about possible legal action against the Hong Kong newspaper, 10 October 1978.

'This I feel to be a sensible and balanced account of the current state of development in this field'.
