Box containing Joseph Needham's notebooks compiled during his trip to China in 1978, and other related documents. There are 26 small notebooks compiled as a set. The first note book is marked «??» [Contents] and provides list of contents for 7 notebooks on miscellaneous visits; 4 on science; 5 on archeology; 2 on technology; 4 on medicine. The final 3 notebooks contain an index to the set. Places visited include Beijing University; various factories and museums in Sinkiang province; Shanghia; Kweilin; national parks near Kweiyang; Hainan Island, including Haikou Coconut and Shell Carving Factory; Peking Botanical Garden; Natural History Museum, Peking; Shanghai Institutes of Physiology and Biochemistry; Tropical Products College and Research Institute, Huanan. The box also contains a sample of raw rubber from Hsing-Lung State Farm, Hainan; a leaflet for Nara Prefectural Museum of Folk Culture, Japan; other Japanese guide books and leaflets.
