30 The Accident Service and X-ray Department. This photograph was taken nearing the completion of the Stage 1 building contract and it shows the Accidnet Service (centre froeground) with its connection to Clinic 1 (left foreground). The building with the pitched roof behind the Accident Service is the Stage 1 X-ray Department. The link corridor connecting the Out-patient Department to the Ward Block is also clearly visible. 31 The Out-patient Department. The Stage 1 Out-patients Department and forecourt nearing completion. Sep 1961
32 The first Ward Block at Hills Road. The Stage 1 Ward Block nearing completion. The exterior remains virtually unchanged, but extensive interior alterations have taken place. The Ward Block comprised 2 orthopaedic wards and two neurosurgery wards. Two operating theatres were situated on the top floor (one for each specialities). After the commissioning of Stage II Ward Block in 1973, all four of the Stage 1 wards were designated for use by the Neurosciences and both the theatres for Neurosurgery. Sep 1961
