The filing of correspondence was highly centralised throughout the 19th century. Nearly all incoming letters were filed in two chronological series, 'Home' and 'Foreign', and there were two corresponding series of outgoing letters. None of these series is now complete. In addition, various series of copybooks were kept for incoming letters, of which only a few have survived. |
