| The library and archives of the British and Foreign Bible Society (founded 1804) were deposited in Cambridge University Library in 1984/5. The library contains about 35,000 printed bibles in some 2,000 languages, dating from 1466 to the present. The archives reflect the Society's efforts to translate, publish and distribute editions of the bible throughout the world. Material is transferred from the Bible Society's headquarters office from time to time. Records of local Bible Society branches and papers of people employed by the Society would be accepted. There are four official histories: John Owen The history of the origin and first ten years of the British and Foreign Bible Society, 2 vols (London 1816), vol 3 (London 1820). George Browne The history of the British and Foreign Bible Society to the close of its Jubilee in 1854, 2 vols (London 1859). William Canton A history of the British and Foreign Bible Society, 5 vols (London 1904-1910) James M. Roe A history of the British and Foreign Bible Society 1905-1954 (London 1965) For the Society's publishing activities, see T.H. Darlow and H.F. Moule Historical Catalogue of the printed editions of Holy Scripture in the Library of the British and Foreign Bible Society, 4 vols (London 1903-1911)
