Andrew Patrick "Mac" McEldowney (1903-1978, SE 1921) was born on 6 April 1903. He attended Aldenham Officer Training School in Hertsfordshire and went on to study at Selwyn College, Cambridge and from there to St Thomas's Hospital in London. All his life he was an enthusiastic athlete, his greatest passion being for Rowing. He later became coach to the Putney Rowing Club which is also where he had his Doctors surgery. Selwyn College was able to purchase his collection of papers in 2006.
Includes scrapbook, photograph albums and diaries relating to Aldenham School and Selwyn College and the Boat Club as well as a manuscript history of the Boat Club mainly relating to his participation in and history of the Boat Club
2005-06/37;2011-12/2 - Purchased from e-Bay from antiquarian dealer, Richard Miller, in Suffolk, June 2006. It is believed that members of the McEldowney family sold the collection at auction in Suffolk sometime in 2006. A buyer interested in family collections and memorabilia purchased the collection and then auctioned it again on eBay in June 2006. Selwyn College was then able to bid successfully for the collection. The collection will be added to the Boat Club Archives which are part of and housed with the College Archives.
