Content and context

Gives thanks for the books recently received. Is especially grateful to Herschel and Babbage for the works they have sent and is greatly impressed by their scholarship shown. Believes that Herschel will go far. Discusses a recent parcel and the books which were evidently missing. Is impressed by the examination papers recently sent and is complimentary about the state of current research into mathematics at Cambridge. Discusses the practicalities of a visit to Switzerland. Gives news of his family.
