Typescript letter signed to Beaton, from Berkshire. John (Betjeman) is returning from the Shetlands on Good Friday. Has muddled her weeks. Can no longer go to Beaton's lunch party as she needs to go to the 'annual sale of horse drawn vehicles and harness'. Would not go, but is looking for a governess cart for her grandchildren. Feels bad as she couldn't come last time Beaton asked. Expresses sadness and apologises for getting the weeks mixed up. 1p; paper. |

Typescript letter signed to Beaton, from Berkshire. Invites Beaton to lunch in Campden, where they have taken a flat. Candida will be there and Beaton can meet her. Understands if Beaton is not able to make a dress for her. Has just had a carriage shed built for her pony cart and would like to take Beaton for a drive in one of them over the downs. Discusses barn dance they are having in June. Praises "Gigi". John has not seen it yet, but intends to when he has a chance. 1p; paper. |

Autograph letter signed to Beaton. Hopes Beaton has a rest after decorating the ballroom. Everybody said it was one of the the most beautiful balls they had ever been to. Will expect Beaton to lunch next Wednesday. If Beaton comes at 1 pm he will see John. Mentions the Benares brocade for Candida. No reply is required unless Beaton hates curry. 2p; paper. |
