St John's Library/Beaton/A1/536 contains:
1 Autograph letter signed to Beaton, from London. Thanks Beaton for the letter and the Thurber enclosure. The new pictures sound gay. Cannot think where Dick Watts got the idea of being Beaton's foe. Is fascinated about Beaton's new voice. Likes Beaton's Chevalier and Ashcroft pictures. Discusses John Gielgud's production of "Richard II" which was "cold and clammy as the estuary of the Ob", and the other theatrical events which occurred. Hopes Beaton will discuss "La Cuisine des Anges" with Sam or Bella Spewack if he meets them.
2p; paper.
1 Jan.
2 Typescript letter signed to Beaton, from London. Has been working very hard. Wonders when Beaton is going to publish a "private little book" with him. Has moved into a new flat. Kay Thompson came back to the Café de Paris. "Call Me Madam" opened to "delightful roars of recognition". Describes John Gielgud, who asked him to supper. Discusses Graham Greene and the new Terence Rattigan play. Tells Beaton about the supper he went to with Rebecca West. Is working for television, scripting an adaptation of "Young Man with a Horn". Asks Beaton to be a godfather to his baby.
2p; paper.
