Autograph letter signed to Beaton, from South Africa. Thanks Beaton for his letter. Thanks Beaton for signing the two books and for his friendly approach. She has always felt cut off from her Beaton relatives. Is reading "My Bolivian Aunt". Is enjoying it, but feels that Beaton's remarks about the Beaton women are not very flattering. Discusses her aunts. Spent a week of her holiday with a young relative, her husband and her seven children. Thouroughly enjoyed "The Wandering Years" as it gave her an insight into the Beaton's family life. Wishes she had known them when she was young. Will write to Beaton when she has finished the two books. Discusses Beaton's character.

Autograph letter signed to Beaton, from South Africa. Has finished reading "The Years Between" and found it interesting. Has made her realise the horrors of living in London during the war. Suffered little personally as she was in South Africa. Admires Beaton for what he has achieved, but does not always approve of him. Feels that God has protected him in several ways. Discusses his plane crash. Beaton's respect for those who take their religion seriously is appealing. Discusses her family. Talks about the theatre in London and the impressions it made on her. Is fascinated by the Thames. Was sent a picture postcard of Lady Diana Manners (?) and thought that she was very beautiful. Is sending Beaton a picture of her father Balfour and his two younger sisters. Celebrated her 46th birthday yesterday. Feels she has become acquainted with her father's family through Beaton's writing. Plans to buy "The Wandering Years". Discusses Beaton's father.

Autograph letter signed to Beaton, from South Africa. Thanks Beaton for his letter. Is pleased that Beaton liked the photograph she sent him. Was distressed to hear of Baba's illness. Heart went out to Beaton's sister when she heard that she had lost her husband in the Second World War. Has seen very few newspaper reports. Discusses Beaton's character.

Autograph letter signed to Beaton, from South Africa. Recommends that Beaton reads the Gospel of John for one hour each day for a month. Writes that this will make him better acquainted with 'the greatest man that ever walked this earth'. Discusses the afternoon and weather. The sea looks calm, but only two weeks ago a freak wave almost killed passengers on a ship. They had to get a helicopter to take them to safety. Asks the name of Beaton's agents in South Africa as she plans to buy "The Strenuous Years". Suggests that he follow this by writing "'The Mature Years"', as these are the best years in life.
