Autograph letter signed to Beaton, from Santa Monica. Thanks Beaton for his letters and for the review of his novel. Is happy that Beaton and Kin like it so much. Many of the reviewers have been shocked. Had some hilarious weeks working on "The Loved One" with Terry Southern. Had some fascinating weeks working on a screenplay of Carson McCullers' "Reflections in a Golden Eye". Tony Richardson seems delighted with it. Thinks "The Loved One" is going to be something quite unique. Richardson wants him to work on another screenplay of a novel by Marguerite Duras called "Le Marin de Gibraltar". If he does it, he will stay in California and hopefully see Beaton in October. If not, he will go to New York with Don. Don's new work is very interesting and often wild and mad. Isherwood appears very briefly as one of the mourners at John Gielgud's funeral in "The Loved One". 1p; paper. |

Typescript letter signed to Beaton, from Santa Monica. He and Don are very sad to hear that Kin is leaving England. Knows that the climate can be a strain and thinks he would not be able to stand it permanently himself. Misses Don terribly when he is in New York. Don returned about ten days ago and is now settling down to paint. In New York he was finishing off a series of portraits of the members of the New York City Ballet. Isherwood has finished his semester as a professor at UCLA. Is thinking about writing another autobiographical book. May go and work with Tony Richardson on the film play of "Le Marin de Gibraltar". Has found a letter from Beaton in his not-answered tray. Gives his permission for Beaton to reprint some of his comments on Beaton's 'Images' in "US Camera". 1p; paper. |

Autograph letter signed to Beaton, from Santa Monica. Is glad that his meeting with Kin produced a positive effect. Kin is strange and complex but charming. Hopes to see Beaton in November. Is adapting a Shaw story called "The Adventures of the Black Girl in her Search for God" for the stage. 1p; paper. |

Autograph letter signed to Beaton, from Santa Monica. Has been reading the revised version of Kin's essay and finds it very enlightening. Don is busy with painting and Isherwood is busy adapting Shaw's story, "The Adventures of the Black Girl in her Search for God" for the stage. Is also doing "A Christmas Carol" for television. This job may bring him to England in a couple of months. 1p; paper. |

Autograph letter signed to Beaton, from London. Their visit was delightful. They most enjoyed having Beaton to themselves with plenty of time to talk. Note from Don explaining that he did some drawings of Truman yesterday one of which he would like Beaton to see. Is not pleased with any of the last drawings that he did of Beaton. Was good to work with Beaton on Sunday. 2p; paper. |

Typescript letter signed to Beaton, from San Francisco. Wants to mail the introduction to Beaton today. Then Beaton could call him about it on Saturday morning and they can agree any alterations. If Beaton does not like it, he must not hesitate to tell Isherwood so. Yesterday he met Kin for a drink. Expected him to be more slim and angular. Thinks he may have 'superimposed the image of Peter Watson'. Is getting into the 'vortex of work' as students manuscripts appear. May go to Nevada after all. 1p; paper. |
