Typescript letter signed to Beaton, from London. Asks for forgiveness in having taken so long in writing to Beaton about the revised entries of his diary. Has read through the revision with as much enjoyment as the first draft. Is still worried about one or two of the early entries which do not come to life as vividly as the rest of the entries do. Mentions minor problems with dates. Gives suggestions for how to overcome these date problems. In other entries, she has made various suggestions for reasons of clarity or grammar. It may be easier to discuss these changes when Beaton comes back. 2p; paper. |

Autograph letter signed to Beaton, from London. Is touched that Beaton should have sent her his new volume of diaries and is thrilled to have them. Can hardly put the new volume down to write this letter. Mentions what her favourite bits have been so far. Went to Ladwell in Dorset last week. Everything Beaton wrote about Ashcombe was still in her mind. 2p; paper. |

Autograph letter signed to Beaton, from London. Sends Beaton New Year good wishes. Had Beaton's diaries as a Christmas present and read them with delight. Cyril Connolly was wrong to say that Beaton's diaries were ephemeral. They will be read by biographers and social historians far into the future. Praises the diaries. Enjoyed Beaton's exhibition in Motcombe. Knew it would be a treat to see so many of Beaton's stage designs all together but did not know he did such 'exquisite' pencil portraits and line drawings. Her visit to Beaton last summer was very special. Discusses the guests Beaton had staying with him. Did not see enough of Eileen. Most of her work is book reviewing. Tells Beaton not to answer this letter. 4p; paper. |

Autograph letter signed to Beaton, from London. Was thrilled to see the pictures of Beaton at work in the garden and samples of his latest pictures in the "Sunday Telegraph". The photographs were beautiful. Admires Beaton's capacity to forge new friendships with young people, even when he has been so ill. Does not know who Alexander Walker is, but he wrote his article with great understanding. 2p; paper. |
