Roderick Ewen Macpherson, otherwise known as 'Angus', was born 17 July 1916 and admitted to King's College, Cambridge in 1935. He was elected a Fellow in 1942. He served the college as (successively) third Bursar 1947-50, second Bursar 1950-51, and first Bursar 1951-62. He was also the University Registrary 1958-74. He died 21 January 2000.
This collection comprises personal papers found among the papers of R. E. Macpherson, associated with him through his Bursarial office. They include sketches by Duncan Grant, personal papers of John Tresidder Sheppard, and notes by John Maynard Keynes.
The papers were found in King's College, Keynes Building store room 3B and sorted by the college Archivist 14-22 May 2001. They were given to King's College by Mrs. Sheila Macpherson, 29 June 2001. The papers are believed to have been held in the desk of John Maynard Keynes, which was passed to Macpherson when he took over the role as First Bursar, and were moved with his other papers when his rooms were cleared after his death in 2000.
The personal papers of R.E. Macpherson were returned to his family, those concerning his role as University Registrary were transferred to the Cambridge University Archive, and those concerning his role as Bursar transferred to the King's College Archive.
