The Papers of Roger Eliot Fry

Title Fry's writings
Reference REF/1
Covering Dates 1870–1934 (Many lectures are dateable only tentatively by the handwriting.)
Extent and Medium 175 files; paper
Content and context

These papers comprise juvenilia, books, articles, reviews, lectures, memoirs and poetry.

Fry lectured from the late 1880s onwards, frequently cannibalising old lectures in the preparation of new. Usually the last version of a lecture survives amongst the papers, reworked from earlier drafts, along with many discarded or seemingly confused excerpts from larger wholes.

In the catalogue of lectures, the names of artists are recorded in the order and form in which they first appear.
