Jonathan Swift (1667-1745) DNB.

Autograph MS on paper. Quarto: 4 leaves. The beginning of a letter dated 'Dec. 28th 1731' in Swift's hand is on the verso of the last leaf. This article is a preliminary draft for Swift's pamphlet 'Considerations upon two Bills relating to the Clergy of Ireland', February 1732. This draft was first printed in 1789, and was edited from this MS by Herbert Davis 'Prose Works of Jonathan Swift', vol. 12: 'Irish Tracts 1728-1733' (Oxford, Blackwell 1955), pp. 179-86. The fragment of a letter is printed in Williams 'Correspondence of Swift' 1963, vol. 3, p. 511.

The MS has descended from Alicia, Mrs. Joseph LeFanu, elder daughter of Swift's godson and biographer Thomas Sheridan (1719-88).
