Content and context

This series comprises thirteen files of miscellaneous items. Most of the files contain lists, including lists of publishers, publishing costs, economists, economic books, periodicals and photographic equipment. Also present are some dictated letters, and a small number of items concerning professional memberships, household tasks and personal finances.

Projected publishing costs and profits. Autograph manuscript notes relating to the years 1933 and 1934, presumably referring to 'Economics of Imperfect Competition'. 1 quarto sheet. Horizontal chain-line 1 in.

1933–1934

List of Economists in British Universities. An autograph manuscript list of economists at universities in the British Isles other than Oxford and Cambridge, compiled for an unidentified purpose. The manuscript is datable to the period 1935-9 by the address given for Sir Alec Cairncross on fol. 1. 3 quarto sheets, numbered, possibly by Joan Robinson. Vertical chain-line 1.125 in.

List of publishers. Manuscript list in black ballpoint, with some figures. Only the last line is in Joan Robinson's hand.

Checks drawn on the accounts of Canadian universities. Three counterfoils of cheques drawn, in an envelope that apparently contained a cheque from a fourth.

Materials related to membership of learned bodies. This file contains two change-of-address cards of the Institut de Science Economique Appliquee, 1948 and [1949?] and the Information Booklet of Purposes and Activities of the American Economic Association, 1950. It also contains membership cards for the Society for Cultural Relations with the U.S.S.R., 1968-70, the Friends of the Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds, 1968-69, the Cambridge University Centre, 1967-68, the Labour Party, 1968, and the University Women's Club, London W.1, 1968.

List of economics books in an unidentified hand. Books listed include Joan Robinson's 'Essays in the Theory of Economic Growth' (1962), Dorfman's 'Price System' (1964) and R. Marris, 'The Economic Theory of "Managerial" Capitalism' (1964).

Notes on photographic equipment and dictated letters. Spiral-bound shorthand notebook, 93 leaves, containing shorthand notes not in Joan Robinson's hand. The notes concern about 300 items of photographic equipment (numbered, with gaps, between 101 and 850), dated 2 October 1980 (fols 1-32), and shorthand letters apparently dictated by Joan Robinson.
