Content and context

Two corrected typescripts of a draft article apparently intended for the 'Revue d'economie politique', but not published. The text is not the same as that of 'The Meaning of Capital' in 'Contributions ot Modern Economics' (1978), pp. 114-25 (itself reprinted in 'Collected Papers V' (1979), pp. 59-70), but the two are clearly related.

King's/PP/JVR/2/17 contains:

Copy 1. Carbon typescript with autograph manuscript corrections of typist's errors. The typed title read 'Accumulation of Capital'; Joan Robinson deleted 'Accumulation' and wrote in 'The Meaning', and later deleted these words too. She also deleted her name, typed under the title. Inscribed by her on fol. 1, 'Take this from proof in 'Contributions'' (at head), and 'Draft of 'Quest-ce que le Capital? // Revue d'economie politique March 1977' (at foot; deleted by Joan Robinson). 11 numbered leaves flimsy A4, watermark 'Orbit'.

Copy 2. Carbon typescript with fuller autograph manuscript revisions and corrections of typist's errors; the title, however, remains 'Accumulation of Capital'. The same typing as JVR/2/17/1, except for fols 8, 9, and 10, which have been retyped (fol. 9 in 1.5 instead of double spacing) with substantial additions and alterations, incorporating and going far beyond those made in manuscript on JVR//2/17/1. 11 numbered leaves flimsy A4, watermark 'Orbit'.
