The earliest surviving drafts of 'Economic Management: China 1972' (1973) seem to have been a series of separately paginated sections, typed on white foolscap with no watermark. After having been put together in order, and the pages renumbered consecutively, a copy was sent to Sol and Pat Adler for their comments [JRV/1/15/7] - possibly that now preserved as JVR/1/15/5, though the pagination seems to have been different, and Sol Adler's hand does not appear to have annotated this copy. 'At some subsequent stage Joan Robinson amended this version with a series of typescript and other manuscript inserts, using scissors and paste where necessary, so as to produce JVR/1/15/5. This was probably sent to a typist for transcription as the next stage, 'though no further copy survives in these papers. |

Complete draft. Apparently complete draft of the text in mixed typescript and manuscript, heavily revised and annotated in Joan Robinson's and at least one other hand. Basic text on white foolscap, no watermark [the same as that of JVR/1/15/1-3], the third and fifth sections being of the same typing as JVR/1/15/1-3. Ribbon copy. The text also includes several inserts:. in typescript, on cream A4 paper watermarked 'Abermill Bond', fols. 1 and 3 [originally one leaf], 30, 38 and 41;. in typescript on white A4 paper watermarked 'Orbit', fol. 31; . in autograph manuscript on white quarto paper watermarked '64 Mill Bond Extra Strong', fols. 4, 5, 10 and 23;. in autograph manuscript on cream quarto paper torn from a pad, with no watermark, fols. 16, 56 and 57. There is also a note by Joan Robinson addressed to an unidentified recipient, asking him to consult 'Derek' [sc. D. Bryan] about Chinese nomenclature, on a scrap of paper: fol. 25.

[1972], and another from Pat Adler [1972], enclosing their typed comments on a draft of this work. Two leaves of letters, 3 leaves of typed comments, and an envelope postmarked 20 Sep. 1972; the contents were presumably brought to England and posted to Joan Robinson from there by a friend.
