Title Letters between Julian Bell and Sir Edward Wilder ('Eddie') Playfair
Reference JHB/2/38A
(former reference: Misc. 82, Misc. 100/JHB/1/4/)
Covering Dates 1928–1938
Extent and Medium 11 envelopes; paper
Content and context

The files also contain related correspondence.

Each sheet has been labelled in pencil with the initials of the writer, followed by the year in which the letter was written, followed by a folio-number running throughout that year. Any dates added by the Archivist to the letters have also been added in pencil, initialled, and dated 'Oct. 80'. All other markings on the envelopes and letters were made previous to the letters' arrival at King's, presumably by Playfair and Quentin Bell. The sheets of paper in some envelopes with a note of the contents written in black are by Quentin Bell. [?]. The transcripts made of the letters from Julian Bell to Playfair by Vanessa Bell, and given to Playfair, have been returned to Playfair.

These papers were given to King's College Library by Sir Edward Playfair, with the authority of Professor Quentin Bell and David Garnett, in October 1980.
