This sub-series comprises autograph manuscript and typescript essays and reviews written while an undergraduate and graduate student at King's College, Cambridge, and after. These seem to be creative writings rather than Tripos essays, and some may have been written while teaching English at Wuhan University, China, 1935-7.
Essays are arranged in approximate chronological order, which reflects a change in subject matter from literature and ethics towards politics and military strategy. Reviews of other authors' printed works are placed at the end of the sequence.
