Gertrude Kingston (1862-1937) was born Gertrude Angela Kohnstamm. She was an actress and the sister of Kingsman Edwin Max Kohnstamm (later Konstam; KC 1888).
The papers comprise chiefly letters received by Miss Kingston from George Bernard Shaw, 1904-34 and, in smaller quantity, from actors, producers and authors including Harley Granville-Barker, Ellen Terry, John Galsworthy, Laurence Housman, Walter de la Mare, John Masefield, Lytton Strachey, H. G. Wells and W. B. Yeats.
A list of the books in Gertrude Kingston's library given to the College with these papers is available in the Archive Centre reading room. Please consult the Librarian for access to the printed books.
The papers and books from Gertrude Kingston's library were given to King's College Library by her brother, Edwin Konstam, in June 1941.
