Friedman wrote an article 'Tribes, States and Transformations' which appeared in a book by Maurice Bloch, 'Marxist Analyses and Social Anthropology'. His article reinterprets Leach's data on the Kachin of Burma. This item is a passionate TS rebuttal by Leach, possibly never published.
