The file includes correspondence with Tien and Raymond Firth and an undated copy typescript 'Report on a survey of overcrowding in Kuching' by Tien.
Tien's research was commissioned by the Colonial Social Science Research Council to study the social and economic organisation of the Chinese community in Sarawak. ERL acted as his supervisor.
