Content and context

'The Society', also known as the 'Terry Group', was established by John J. Terry (KC 1934). It was primarily interested in religion, though not all members were religious. The speakers included T. S. Eliot, whose address in Lent Term 1937 'Recent Developments in Humanism' (pp. 19-22 of the minute book) was closely related to the essay he contributed that year to the symposium 'Revelation' (Gallup B32).
