Administrative records

Title Abington (incorporating Little Abington, Great Abington and Hildersham)
Reference KCAR/6/2/001
Covering Dates 1175–1803 (Date has been estimated.)
Extent and Medium 2 boxes
Content and context

Lands in Great and Little Abington and Hildersham were purchased by the College in 1447 from John Abytoun for £50. The Abington lands were originally intended as a compensation to Trinity Hall for the use of its land in Mill Street, Cambridge, to extend King's College (Henry VI's grant of the lands to Trinity Hall is kept under KCAR/6/2/1/4 Title Deeds ABI/63); Trinity Hall refused to accept them, so they instead became part of the King's College estates. The lands were eventually sold in 1869.

Documents relating to King's College estates in Abington manor. Includes ABI/1-/109.

Please note that the estate collection is continually receiving new material. Catalogues for estates which have had many additions made during the year will be re-published approximately annually, and the Archive Centre staff are always happy to conduct up-to-date computer searches for any estate. Please contact archivist@kings.cam.ac.uk with enquiries.
