Content and context

Stephen Betts Dalston (1901-1990) was admitted in 1921 to study Mathematics but changed to Economics for part II. He was awarded a B.A. in 1924 and went on to teach in Liverpool and Bourneville.

The papers mainly concern his musical and sporting interests.

Items 1-10 were given by Dr. Christopher and Anne Boothby, 2003. Item 11 was given by Sally Low in 2012.

1 Printed papers. These are papers concerning admission to his degree, also introduction to musical societies within the University.

2 Accounts. These accounts comprise: small notebook written on 1st leaf only, containing detail of his account with Matthew & Son stores, Cambridge, Oct. 1922; college accommodation bills and receipts; miscellaneous receipts for clothing, books, subscriptions to clubs and societies, furniture, coal and other household goods.

3 Bills and receipts. Bills from shops in Cambridge and Liverpool; receipts for pension payments to the Liverpool Education Committee; AMS cash account mainly for groceries.

4 Memorabilia. This file includes programmes, promotional material for College societies, copy of breakfast menu for Hall.

5 Memorabilia. This file includes a bundle of menus for Old Lancing Club dinners, programme for an art exhibition, cards listing teams for rowing and other sporting events, theatre, cinema and concert programmes, orders of service for institution of Philip Clayton.
