Content and context

Sarah Weston was born in 1855 in Benenden, Kent, the daughter of Henry Thomas Weston, a farmer, and his wife Mary (née Mills). Sarah was one of eight children. She married George M Greenfield, a sugar broker, in 1882 and they had seven children.

Jerningham House, Tunbridge Wells: school reports for Miss S Weston, Christmas 1868 and 1869, with an undated photograph of the pupils.

Given by Miss Weston's niece, Phyllis M Cook (nee Blunt, Girton 1922-25) in 1969. Phillis Blunt's mother was Jane Weston, who was almost certainly Sarah Weston's sister. A letter from Phyllis Cook to Professor Bradbrook (Mistress of Girton) is filed with the papers. It explains that the reports were sent because they might be of interest to a women's college founded at a similar time.
