James Dunlop was Charles Robert Leslie's patron from 1819 when he purchased 'Sir Roger de Coverley going to Church'.

1 C R Leslie to James Dunlop. Four letters to James Dunlop (three folded, sealed and franked, one without cover) all dated. The letters concern an evening meeting, Leslie's portraits of royalty, of Lord Melbourne and of Lady Fanny Cowper, also Leslie and Dunlop family news.

2 C R Leslie to Mrs Dunlop [Nora G Dunlop]. Three letters to Nora Dunlop (two folded, sealed and franked, one with envelope) all dated. The first contains a prospectus for Leslie's publication of Constable's letters and engravings and a request that Mrs Dunlop subscribe. The second also concerns the Constable book and a memorial stone at Kensal Green. The last is a long letter re a dinner at the Guildhall and a request from JCG for recommended reading matter.

3 C R Leslie to JCG. Seven letters to Jane Catherine Gamble (3 folded, sealed and franked, three with envelopes and one without cover). All but one are dated or can be dated from the frank. The letters concern news of family and mutual friends (the Chalons, Washington Irving), Leslie's work, their reading (Pope, Byron, Homer), theatre trips etc., and an invitation to dine with Charles Dickens and his wife.
