1 Note of authentication. Note (with plain outer cover) signed 'Thos. Rackett July 30 1832' to authenticate the provenance of JCG's wooden box. 'The Box which accompanies this Paper was made out of the Mulberry Tree planted by Shakespeare, a part of which was found in the possession of Mrs Garrick (by myself and Mr Beltz her Executors) duly authenticated and sealed at each end as originally received by Mr Garrick. The light coloured wood is part of a Cypress Tree planted at Hampton by Mr & Mrs Garrick. The seal with the letters W S is from a seal found about 15 years ago at Stratford upon Avon. It is a gold seal ring & is in the possession of Mr Wheler author of The antiquities of Stratford. There is great reason to believe this ring belonged to the Immortal Bard. See the Gents.Magazine Vol .... The other seal is a Head of Shakespeare, worn by Garrick at his Watch'.
