Christ's College Old Library Archives

Repository details

The Old Library, which is an extension by G.F. Bodley of the original sixteenth century College Library, contains material given by benefactors throughout the College's history. Major collections include: papers of Charles Stuart Calverley (1831-1884), poet; Charles Darwin (1809-1882), naturalist; Douglas Rayner Hartree (1897-1958), mathematical physicist; John Stevens Henslow (1796-1861), botanist; Henry More (1614-1687), theologian; William Henry Denham Rouse (1863-1950), classical scholar; Charles Lesingham Smith (1806-1878), mathematician; David Stanbury (1933-1997); D.H.W. Dickson (1924-) It is the College's policy to collect and preserve material concerned with all aspects of the history of the College.

Typescript indexes are held in the Library office. Work began in 2006 to enter the Library's archive collections onto Janus.
