The society was founded in 1976 by a group of students interested in their post university careers and keen to participate, as students, in industry and commerce. They ran a speaker programme featuring representatives from a variety of industrial backgrounds; provided networking and work shadowing opportunities; liaised with large corporate graduate recruiters; and acted as a source of information about job opportunities. From 1978 the society worked closely with the nationwide, but Cambridge based, Careers Research and Advisory Centre. In 2002 the society changed its name to ''Cambridge Futures'', widening it activities to include training events such negotiation skills workshops. Further information about the club's activities is on its website (www.cambridgefutures.com) together with a history of the club from which some of the preceding notes were drawn.
