Content and context

These volumes are variously entitled ''Peal Book'', ''Touch Book'' or ''Register of Ringing''. They form a complete series recording the club's ringing activities and usually give date; location; if hand or tower bells were used; name of method rung; conductor; number of changes rung; names of members of the band and which bell they rang; and the guild serial number if a true full peal. Printed cards commemorating peals are sometimes pasted into the books. In volumes SOC.10.3, 5 and 6 there are some fine line and pen and ink drawings drawn by a number of different persons to commemorate peals.

University/SOC.84.10 contains:

Peal and touch book. Additionally this volume records the president, conductor and secretary of the guild for each term. Occasionally statistics for the term's exercise have been compiled.
