Content and context

The club was formed by staff of the science departments and held its inaugural meeting on 1 February 1971. It ran a regular lecture programme drawing speakers from government departments, hospital consultant staff and various universities. Meetings were open to all.

The volume was used to note the title of the guest speaker's paper, their name and their area of expertise or position. Below this, members of the audience signed their name and gave their address. The names of members of the committee are noted, as are the menus for the club's annual dinners. The speaker and lecture title for meetings held on 15 February, 4 March and May 1971 are annotated inside the front cover.

This item was transferred to the University Archives from the Manuscripts Department on 9 October 2007. It had been presented by C. Woodward, Selwyn College, to the Manuscripts Department on 17 August 1978 and had been given the classmark Ms.Add.8192
