The club meets to appreciate Italian culture through its regular meetings; film-showings; talks on arts, architecture, history, literature and music; language courses; newsletters; formal dinners; pasta and spaghetti evenings; excursions to London to see ballets, concerts, operas and plays; wine-tasting evenings; and Italian cooking lessons. It is known to have existed from at least 1920. Further information about the club's activities is on its website at http://www.societies.cam.ac.uk/italian/.
The file mainly consists of material concerning the hire and screening of Italian language films, end of year accounts 1977-80, lists of members, term programmes and items related to the society's bank account.
This item was transferred to the University Archives from the Manuscripts Department on 9 October 2007. It had been presented by J. de la Hunty, Trinity College, to the Manuscripts Department on 16 January 1987 and had been given the classmark Ms.Add.8716.

Detailed membership lists circa 1975-85 enclosed with this item are now in a separate envelope and are closed to scholars for 80 years from the date of creation, under the terms of the Data Protection Act, 1998.
