Content and context

The club came into existence in the Lent term of 1902. It evolved from Union Society debates concerning Irish subjects. It was a social rather than a political group intended as "reunion" of Irish undergraduates and was initially limited to 21 elected members. Its first formal meeting was held on 18 May 1902. The club, later renamed Cambridge University Hibernian Society, met until the 1970s.

This item was transferred to the University Archives from the Manuscripts Department on 3 October 2007. It had been presented by Dr P. O'Higgins, Christ's College, to the Manuscripts Department on 25 September 1984 and had been given the classmark Ms.Add.8421.
