The society was established in 1983 to provide a forum for contact and exchange for research students interested in archaeology from any department in the University. The key figure in setting up and running the society seems to have been Polly Jeanne Fahnestock (died 2007) of Wolfson College. The society appears to have ceased to function in ca 1985.
The records were presented to the University Archives by Dr John Pickles, Cambridge Antiquarian Society (CAS), on 29 September 2009. They had been found in the CAS room at the Haddon Library, Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology.
