Title 'Dr Keill's letters and papers'
Reference O.XIV 278.1-14
Creator Keill, John
Covering Dates 1700–1798
Content and context

John Keill (1671-1721) was Savilian Professor of Astronomy at the University of Oxford, 1712-21, and an outspoken advocate of Newtonian ideas. He was Treasurer of the Palatines, that is to say treasurer of the fund subscribed for protestant refugees from the Palatinate, 1709-11 and decipherer to Queen Anne, ca 1711-1716.

The letters and papers relate chiefly to interests in natural philosophy and mathematics, but there are also a few on the Palatines and French codes and on family matters.

Comparing the contents with the 1798 catalogue, bundle number 12 is missing.
