The Senate House Syndicate is the body responsible for organising the Congregations at which honorary degrees are conferred, once the Advisory Committee on Honorary Degrees has chosen the honorands and their awards have been graced.
The papers include, variously: copy minutes of the Standing Advisory Committee on Honorary Degrees; correspondence in support of candidates; correspondence relating to arrangements for the Congregations at which the degrees are conferred and such associated events as lunches, visits and entertainments, lists of invitees, press releases, drafts of orations and orders of proceedings, guides for officiating staff, Secretary's concluding evaluation reports.
Degr.H.3-16 were transferred to the University Archives from the Vice-Chancellor's Office on 11 Apr. 2000 ; 17-25 from the same source on 7 Nov. 2003; 26 from Mr Peter Bowyer, usher, on 4 July 2002; 27 from the Vice-Chancellor's Office on 1 July 2005; 23A from the same source on 8 Sept. 2008. There are no accession details for Deg.H.1-2A.
