The society was established in 1921 for junior and senior members of the University and other interested individuals. 'D' has no significance. Its object was to study the doctrine of the Church of England in the light of knowledge acquired since its formularies were compiled, interpreted in the widest sense. Since the 1960s at least it has been run by the Norris-Hulse Professor of Divinity as a graduate seminar on Philosophical Theology and Philosophy of Religion. Until the mid 1908s, termly speaker meetings were organised around a single theme. |
