The revenue from this estate, bequeathed to the University by Revd Thomas Seaton (died 1741), Fellow of Clare College, was to be paid annually to the Master of Arts who composed the best poem on a sacred subject. The bequest was not formally accepted by the University and no regulations drawn up for the Seatonian Prize until 1898. |
