| Content and context |
The revenue from the estate endowed the Plumian Professorship of Astronomy (and Experimental Philosophy), founded in 1704 in pursuance of the will of Thomas Plume, DD. The bequest was to cover the cost of the erection of an observatory, and the stipend, residence and instruments of the Professor. |
