Papers of George Lyon Tupman

A manuscript discussion by Tupman for the 1874 Transit of Venus entitled 'Determination of the Mean Solar Parallax and of the corrections to the Tabular place of Venus (referred to the center of the Sun) from all the observations of the Internal Contacts deposited at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich'. The discussion is in five parts:

1. First Approximate Solution, rejecting only Dunn and Hennissey

2. Solution after rejecting some with large residuals

3. Solution of 36 selected observations

4. The Residuals converted into time

5. Solar Parallax derived independently from Ingress and Egress, the selected times of Contact being revised, and additional ones being taken into account.
