RGO 57 contains drawings of sunspots showing their development, size and grouping, with tables recording the number of sunspots for each year.

The volumes were probably transferred from Kew to the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, before being deposited subsequently in the R.G.O. Archives.

1 Sunspot drawings. Sunspot drawings dated 11 March 1858 - 9 February 1863 and 1 January 1866 - 18 December 1867. There are notes throughout on the development, size and grouping of the sunspots, and tables showing the number of sunspots each year. A note at the end of the 1863 entries records that 'Heliograph removed to Kew Observatory, and pictures numbered again from May 6th 1863, in another volume'.

There are notes throughout on the development, size and grouping of the sunspots, and tables showing the number of sunspots each year. A note is attached at the start of the volume listing dates when observations of sunspots were not made.

5 Sunspot drawings. Sunspot drawings dated 13 April 1872 - 24 December 1879, with tables summarising results. Attached at the front of the volume are three tables recording new groups of sunspots observed during (respectively) 1876- 1887, 1876- 1882 and 1878- 1891. The last of these tables was compiled in 1892. There is also an attached graph for the years 1876- 1887.
